Each year around this time we observe Lent, a 40-day preparation for Easter. You may be familiar with Lent, but in most of our minds, Lent is a dour (maybe even boring?) season of fasting and enduring another Midwest winter; waiting for spring, Easter joy and Peeps. But not this year. We’ll still have joy (and Peeps!) but this year, we are practicing Lent, remembering that Jesus invites us to live more fully each day and that to really discover the depths of Easter joy, we need daily practices that help unveil that truth far beyond this season. That’s why we’re calling this Lent, A Practical Faith.  Each week, with wisdom from Barbara Brown Taylor’s “Altar in the World” we’ll explore a simple practice to help discover the wisdom and joy of life that Jesus wants for each one of us.  You’ll have support for each practice with a weekly video called Let’s Practice! and Wednesdays you can drop by for dinner, to practice together and we’ll even talk a bit about our experiences. This Lent, let’s not just observe faith, let’s practice it! 

Did you find a rock with a QR code that led you here?   Well, as a part of our "A Practical Faith" Lent series, we're inviting people to see that God's love and hope doesn't just exist in some other time and place, but it is HERE and NOW! There's a story in the Bible from long ago about a guy named Jacob who fell asleep and dreamed a vision about how God was connected to us mortals through some sort of ladder or stairway and when he awoke, he said to himself, "surely the Lord was in this place and I didn't even know it!" He then took the rock he had been using as a pillow and added more rocks and made an altar to say "thank you" to God for the reminder that God is always with us (Genesis 28.10-22).   

Like Jacob, you are invited to place the rock you found somewhere you're experienced the holy. 

Maybe it was a place that brings you joy or even a broken place that needs God's mending.

• March 2 — Ash Wednesday (5:30 supper, 7 worship) 
• March 9, 16, 23, 30, April 6 — Discussion and Supper Group  
• April 10 — Palm Sunday (9am worship, 11-12 Community Meal) 
• April 14 — Maundy Thursday (5:30 supper and group, 7 worship) 
• April 15 — Good Friday Tenebrae Worship (7pm) 
• April 17 — Easter (9am worship)  

• This Lent, we’ll be using Barbara Brown Taylor’s book, “An Altar in the World” in worship and we’ll be offering a weekly group discussion and soup supper. These dinners and discussion will happen weekly on Wednesdays from 5:30-7pm at FCC's Fellowship Hall. 
•  We’ll gather with a meal, discuss the reading, talk about how our personal practice is going and even try a spiritual practice together, as a group.
• Books are available at the church and you can sign up to bring soup, if you'd like...or just come and enjoy some hospitality as we practice our faith together!
